Here we have them. The first print-outs of my promo flyers. I really do like this colour pallet below. However i feel that if a viewer looked at the design for several minutes it would start to give them a headache.
But seriously im over the moon with the prints - however the 3D design below was lined up incorrectly (my own fault) and therefor the duplex print was out. The third image down shows you what i mean when i shone the stock up towards a light. Gutted.
Below: The blue and white colour pallet has worked well. These flyers i set properly and i was able to cut out correctly. This design is growing on me - and even though i prefer the 3D colour pallet, i feel the examples below work well with the logo etc.

Ph@! (Promo - Ready for Print)
It's time to finally get some prints done. And below are whats getting done. Because i was struggling to decided which colour pallet worked best on screen. I decided i would print both designs. The posters will be A1 standard width but and extra 200mm in lenght.
The flyers are a standard A5 format. During the design process i found this worked well and helped with positioning the type, logo etc.
The flyers below show you the front and reverse side of the design. Originally i was going to display all the information on the front and leave the reverse side blank. However i refered back to my type class from last year and decided to work on the hierarchy and legiablity of my type.
Below: The second choice of colour pallet. The blue and white together are very striking - and in some ways, this is a more legiable design from the 3D colour pallet. The prints however will be the deciding factor.

Ph@! (Promo - Posters) 1
Ph@! (Promo - Flyers) 1
After sorting out the logo. I decided to take the final resolution and start producing some promo flyers. The examples below are for myself - to experiment with colour, hierarchy, legiablity etc.
Some of the designs work better than others as usual. However i really do feel that these designs are already taking a clear direction and represent their brand well.
Thing that need addressing:

Thing that need addressing:
- Dates (The date given is not a saturday)
- Hierarchy (Think of what the viewer needs to know)
- Colour pallet (What works - What doesn't)
- Existing flyers (How are they formatted - Whats on the front and reverse side?)
Ph@! (Logo Development) 3
Here it is. The new identity for PH@ music. After experimenting with 3D designs (previous blog post) i decided to take 3D as simple as it gets - I simply overlayed one layer on top of the other. The colour pallet i have used below is similar to the current identites. I feel this design is what my client was after - and i also feel that once the design is put into different medias (promo, clothing, banners etc) the logo really will do it justice.
Ph@! (Logo Development) 2
I decided to look at some exisiting fonts to help with my design direction. I researched into existing music labels and identitys and found there was a vast range of different designs using type, image, sans serif and serif fonts - so in reality there was no strict route to keep to.
I then got my old PH@ ticket from my wallet and began examining what i could do with the current logo to make it more modern and an exciting brand.
Below are some examples of my experimentation - some of the designs are hand rendered in a digital format and some are standard downloaded fonts. Some of the designs work - however i still feel none of these represent PH@! as the brand i know.

Ph@! (Logo Development) 1
After the last crit - i came to realise that i was pretty much on top of 2 of my briefs. I had already made a start to PH@! - so it was time to try and hammer this brief out as soon as possible with the clients wishes in mind.
The client wants PH@! rebranded. They want the logo to look hand rendered and to be similar to the previous identity yet adding something new to the brand. I put pen to paper and started drawing some initial ideas. Once i had done this i took the design sheets into illustrator and started to vector some of the designs (as seen below).
Below: These are some prints screens of my design sheets in illustrator being reproduced digitally. The hand rendered designs had some sort of presence and unique feel - however these design once digitial lost this affect.
It was time to look back at the old identity and have a serious think.

I Am President (Album Artwork) 15
The album artwork is going in the direction i want, finally. I have manged to make the colour pallets of the photographs work along with the logo (front and reverse)
I took a shortened down logo which i see representing the band in the future and made this the main focus point on the reverse side of the album cover.
I'm really liking this direction - however after looking at a netting book - i found a new album cover layout (which allows me to print, and hand-render the final resolution - along with picking a suitable and heavy duty stock)

I Am President (Album Artwork) 14
Below we have some revised album cover designs. I decided to go back to using some imagery which i have previously taken for this brief. I wanted the colour pallet of this piece to catch the viewers attention - and i feel i have acheieved this while maintaining a look which suits the target audience.
I'm pleased with the direction these designs are taking and feel a few more experiements will see me to my final resolution.

I Am President (Album Artwork) 11
Decided to get the pencil out. The direction that the album cover is taking at the minute is changing to what i originally had planned in terms of packaging.
I drew these quick sketches to get the idea out of my head. I prefer the direction the design is taking now and feel that when a final resolution is produced, the printed product will be brilliant. There may still be time to produce an outer shell. Lets see how it goes.
The idea now is to have the album consisting of 3 flat spaces (6 sides) It will obviously inculde the audio cd along with the track listing booklet, and a unique format poster which will fit in the oppositie sleeve.

Okay so here are some test prints that i have done. Although this will not be my final choice of stock, it still gives me an idea on how the colour pallet is printed and how vibrant/dull it will actually be. Im not over the moon with the way these colours have come out to be honest. I know where i have gone wrong however so its back to photoshop to re-edit those images.
I have also pointed out a couple of factors.
I have also pointed out a couple of factors.
- IAP Logo - Not legiable at that scale
- J&T Logo - same as above
- Reverse side type (change to 10pt)

I Am President (Album Artwork) 9
This was a big stage - time to start experimenting with the reverse side type. There is a track list now, which consists of 6 song titles. The below examples give a first impression of some of the locations i could position the track list.
The 3 examples at the bottom show the designs including the logo designs and spine covers type design. In all those examples i have included the I Am President logo and my own Jam & Toast logo for recognition when the album is released. So far the album covers colour pallet is working well with the type and both the logos.

I Am President (Album Artwork) 8
This is the stage of logo and type development. I got feedback from my client to the prefered logo and have decided to immediatley add this design to the album cover. This is just initial idea generating. I have an idea where the design is heading, and the reverse side will be getting experimented with in terms of typeface, colour pallet etc.
I am going to be playing around with the finish immediately, and start adding my own Jam & Toast identity to the design.
Next stage: Play around with composition and text.
